COURSE TITLE:

Level 1 Outdoor Recreation 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Outdoor Recreation course is intended for International Students. It offers students the opportunity to participate in a broad range of pursuits in the Wanaka area. Students develop new skills, learn about the outdoor environment and get to challenge themselves. The course contains a wide variety of pursuits and activities, and is able to be customised to suit student ability and interests. 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The course will give students an opportunity to participate in a broad selection of outdoor activities from the local environment. 
  • Term 1 and 2 will be a selection of Outdoor Recreation activities that may include:
    • Flat water kayaking, Canoeing, Rafting
    • Canyoning
    • Rock Climbing, bouldering and abseiling
    • Stand Up Paddleboarding
    • Tramping and hiking (day walks and multi-day trips)
    • Cycling and mountain biking
    • Nordic Skiing
  • Term 3 will involve participation in a weekly snowsports programme at Treble Cone.
  • Term 4 may include some more of the same activities from Term 1 and 2.

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE ALREADY?

There is no need to have any prior experience in the outdoors in order to do this course. 

ASSESSMENT REGULATIONS:

This course is completely experiential, with an emphasis on group process and personal challenge. There is no formal assessment for any aspect of this course. 

WHERE DOES THIS COURSE LEAD?

This course leads on to the Term 4 Outdoor Pursuits programme especially for International students. It can also lead on to NCEA Outdoor Pursuits courses at Level 2 and Level 3.
