COURSE TITLE:
'The Journey'
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Pupils contemplating this course should enjoy the challenges and variety of sport, physical activity, and outdoor pursuits. This course is designed to cater to those students who have an interest in Physical Education, Outdoor Pursuits, Nutritional preparation and who wish to gain achievement standard credits in the process. The main focus is to prepare and participate in an expedition type journey. (i.e. a mountain biking, tramping and water-based expedition-a 'mountains to the sea' theme has already been considered.) This would be a five-day expedition that the students would manage in terms of nutritional needs, safety management, and fitness requirements. The course combines practical and theoretical aspects and pupils need to be prepared to work equally diligently at both theoretical and practical components.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?You will cover the practical and theoretical aspects of physical education. Your major areas of study will include: - Demonstrate knowledge of an individual’s nutritional needs.
- Participate actively in a variety of physical activities and explain factors that influence own participation.
- Demonstrate quality movement in the performance of a physical activity.
- Demonstrate, and show understanding of, responsible behavior for safety during outdoor education activities.
- Demonstrate self-management strategies and describe the effects on participation in physical activity.

ASSESSMENT REGULATIONS:
Assessment/Re-assessment In the event you do not pass the standard at assessment time you may be provided with an opportunity to reassess your work at the teacher’s discretion. Late work: Work submitted late for any internally assessed standards will not be marked. If there is a genuine reason or explanation why you are unable to submit the work then you are able to apply for an extension. This should occur prior to the due date and not after. WHERE DOES THIS COURSE LEAD?
A
similar course will be investigated at level 2 in 2020. This course would also
allow students a pathway into level 2 Physical Education and/or Level 2 Outdoor
Education and/or Level 2 nutrition. There would be no restriction on any
pathways within the subject for this cohort of students.
