    COURSE TITLE:

    Year 9 Physical Education and Health 

    COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    Physical Education and Health is compulsory for all year 9 students. Each student will receive three practical sessions a week and take part in a six week modular rotation that will cover Health provision. The focus is on the well being of the students themselves through learning in health related and movement contexts. There are four strands of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum that underpin the learning in this subject area:

    • Personal Health and Physical Development
    • Movement Concepts and Motor Skills
    • Relationships with other People
    • Health Communities and Environments 

    WHAT WILL I LEARN?

    The key values of; Safety management, Being actively involved, Movement and Motor skills, Relationships and Teamwork, Developing a positive attitude and Interpersonal skills use are delivered through the practical element. Student/teacher negotiation plays a vital role in the selection of practical activities covered throughout the year. 
    However, topics are generally considered from the following; Volleyball, Turbo Touch, Badminton, Tchoukball, Lacrosse, Gymnastics, Biophysical Fitness, Ki-o-Rahi and Games around the world.
    In the key learning area of Health, student's will have opportunities to explore the ways in which the physical, mental and emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of hauora contribute to healthy living. Health related topics include but are not limited to; well being, values and friendship, assertive communication, bullying and cyber-bullying, digital citizenship/social media and stress.
