Year 10 Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of societies. It takes elements of Culture, Economics,  Geography and History in the analysis of human societies through times of peace and times of conflict. We look at critical issues in Human Rights, Ethics, War, International Relations and New Zealand society.












Topics:
The struggle for Black Civil Rights in the United States from slavery to modern times.
The Cold War
The New Zealand Wars  - indigenous rights and colonial ambition in 19th century New Zealand
Geographic Issues and solutions

Assessment:
Resource interpretation, essay writing, digital presentations, posters.
NCEA credits available through Level 1 History or Geography Achievement Standards.
