Year 7 & 8 Learning Programmes

What happens in Year 7 and 8 at MAC?

Year 7 and 8 students at Mount Aspiring College are placed into homeroom classes of mixed ability. The classes are single year level classes.

The students are taught Maths, English, Science and Social Science in an integrated way mostly by their homeroom teacher. On occasion, a specialist Maths teacher will deliver the Maths programme. Learning is delivered in a range of contexts making specific reference to deeper levels of thinking and relating specific skills and knowledge to bigger ‘concepts’ of learning which allow for a classroom programme where learning is authentic, student-driven and innovative.

Year 7 and 8 students head off to specialist subject teachers for Performance, Physical Education and Health, Maori, Workshop Technology and Art.
