Student IT Team

Are you into computers? Want to help out with the School's IT Systems, learning along the way?

As a member of the Student IT team you'll be able to help students and staff with IT questions from your very own desk in the IT office. You'll learn the ins and outs of a Windows Domain (network), help build and fix computers and have access to all of MAC's IT resources for school/personal projects!

This year (2019) the Student IT Team will have the option to enter the HSL (NZ High School eSports League) with one or more teams battling other schools to be NZ's best.

As this is the first year MAC will have a Student IT Team, you'll help determine what you learn/do as a part of it. We're open to all suggestions!

‘Support ICT at MAC’


  • Assist fellow Students & Teachers with basic IT needs/questions

  • Assist in the changes/modifications/improvements of IT processes

  • Learn the “Ins & Outs” of IT and the MAC Network

  • (Optional) Be Involved in the HSL (NZ High School esports League)

  • (Optional) Undertake Certificates/Qualifications yet to be announced


  1. Assist with attending to other Students and Staff IT issues as they arise.

  2. Keep regular “office hours” as ideal times for students to troubleshoot issues with, or learn more about their BYOD devices.

  3. Help create step-by-step guides & how-to’s to help with recurring problems/processes for staff and students.

  4. Update and maintain the IT @ MAC Wiki pages with any changes to processes or systems as they arise.

  5. Assist in building/imaging/deploying school computers and software.

  6. Assist in repairing and upgrading computers/laptops, peripherals, network equipment and software as required.

  7. Provide feedback and suggestions based on the students’ experiences with IT at MAC, and plan future solutions/improvements.

  8. Assist in other general MAC IT tasks & projects as directed by the ICT Staff


The following skills, qualities and experience are sought (but not altogether necessary as you'll learn lots!):

  1. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff & administration.

  2. Knowledge of Windows, Macintosh and other operating systems used within the school.

  3. Knowledge/Interest in basic computer hardware and peripherals.

  4. Knowledge/Interest in server operating systems (Microsoft Server, Ubuntu Server)

  5. Knowledge/Interest in common internet browsers -e-mail software - common multimedia software applications and tools.

  6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  7. Ability to work independently in solving problems.

  8. Ability to work as part of a team.


Job Requirements: No minimum qualifications, although further qualifications may be offered within the role.


  1. Hours required by this position vary, though set office hours for the student IT Team will be observed each day of the week (likely lunch-times or interval, once a week per student). Office hours may be used for computing related homework, assignments or projects in quieter times.

  2. Occasional after-school work will be offered, but not essential/mandatory.
