Health NCEA Level 1
In Health Education students consider their well-being, attitudes, and values, and also work towards promoting the health of their community. Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of tasks, including considering ways to keep themselves safe in a variety of situations and learning effective ways to communicate to help develop healthy relationships. In Health Education students explore health issues: the changing states of health, problem-solving, understanding sexuality and safety issues around drug use.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You will investigate a number of different issues related to self, others, and society. Your major areas of study will include:
Take action to enhance an aspect of personal well-being.
Demonstrate an understanding of interpersonal skills used to enhance relationships.
Demonstrate an understanding of strategies for promoting positive sexuality.
Demonstrate understanding of issues to make health-enhancing decisions in drug-related situations.
Demonstrate understanding of ways in which well-being can change and strategies to support well-being.
WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE ALREADY?
There are no pre-requisites for this course.
In the event you do not pass the standard at assessment time you may be provided with an opportunity to reassess your work at the teacher’s discretion.
Work submitted late for any internally assessed standards will not be marked. If there is a genuine reason or explanation why you are unable to submit the work then you are able to apply for an extension. This should occur prior to the due date and not after. Approach your subject teacher and make your case. Read the NCEA student handbook for more information.
