COURSE TITLE:

Level 1 Māori

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This full year course will take you deeper into te ao Māori (the Māori world) and build on basic skills to develop your use and understanding of te reo Māori. This will involve the four strands of language: Whakarongo (listening), Korero (speaking), Tuhituhi (writing) and Panui (reading) as well as many interactive activities that are both independent and co-operative.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will be able to initiate and sustain converstations with te reo Māori speakers in familiar contexts and use basic Māori language patterns spontaneously. You will be confident in experimenting with new language, understand instructions and information in formal and informal contexts and read independently. You will be able to distinguish between past and present actions and states and use a range of idioms and proverbs appropriately.

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE ALREADY?

Māori at Year 9 and 10 will provide a solid foundation for level 1.

You should have an understanding of Te Ao Māori and be able to mihimihi.

40% externally assessed

60% internally assessed
