L1NUM - Numeracy
Level 1 Numeracy
This course is designed to enable students to gain the numeracy component required to complete NCEA Level 1 whilst building basic skills to function in society. The course is not designed to cover sufficient materials to prepare students for NCEA Level 2 so students who complete this course will likely be placed into pathways for their future mathematics studies.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Fundamental number concepts
Fundamental measurement concepts
Fundamental statistics concepts
WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE ALREADY?
There are no entry requirements for this course - you will be directed into a course by the head of learning area based on your performance in Year 10.
* You must pass all 3 standards to qualify for NCEA numeracy.
* You cannot mix achievement standards and unit standards to achieve Numeracy.
This course is assessed by collecting a portfolio of work which is then measured against a number of skills which need to be met in order to meet each standard. These standards are designed to be completed over a number of weeks and all evidence must be gathered in situations involving context.
All three of the standards must be successfully met in order to gain the 10 credits required for Numeracy. You cannot gain Numeracy from a mixture of unit standard and achievement standards. There will be no externally assessed standards for the numeracy course and as such students must complete all three standards before NCEA exams begin in November.
Authenticity and Appeals
